Now with the advancements of Digital EEG technology, the ability to program up to 32 channel montages has made cassette tape recording OBSOLETE. The digital ambulatory systems use computer discs instead of cassette tapes, decreasing the risk of repeat tests due to recording noise or motor failure. With the ease of changing montage and/or settings (filters, speed or time constants), DIGITAL technology enables the physician to change settings or montages before, during or after any test. These systems allow up to 32 channels worth of montages instead of limited reference, coronal or parasagittal recording as in cassette recordings.
